Not so lovable losers

Here’s the wildcard race, and how I think it’s going to go:

St. Louis will probably win the NL Central. They have 6 games to go, 3 of which are against the Cubs. If this past weekend is any indication, the Cub games are wins for the Cards, which will put them at least at 92-70.

Milwaukee could win the division, but probably won’t, because they’ll have to win all 6 of their remaining games to have a chance. I think they’ll win 4 or 5, which puts them at 90-72 or 91-71, which will give them a wildcard berth.

Washington has 8 games to go, 5 against Philadelphia and 3 against Cleveland. They’ll probably win at least half of those games, which gives them the other wildcard.

The Cubs and Arizona, the other two teams that have any chance, will have to win all 6 of their remaining games to go anywhere. In the case of the Cubs, there’s no way the Cards are going to lose 3 in St. Louis.

Bye bye, Cubbies. See you in 2124.
